Partners with Parents Summer Newsletter - July 2009

July 2009                                                                                                          àá úùñ"è

Dear Parents,

In our last two newsletters we examined the challenges which kids with learning disabilities face when learning to speak and read two languages. In this newsletter, we will finish addressing this issue, by offering you some ideas and suggestions about to help older immigrant children with learning disabilities who struggle with Hebrew as their second reading language. We hope this will be helpful for the new school year.

We are now planning eagerly for the new school year. In addition to our regular services we will be having three new social skills groups, taught by our wonderful and much loved social skills instructor Sharon Fishman. We are also launching a brand-new after school English enrichment program for Ethiopian children in memory of Dr. Lana Schwebel.

PWP would love to have your input and involvement in all of our programs and services, as we work to build our non profit organization. Please be in touch if you want to help change the face of education in Israel!

Wishing you all a wonderful and relaxing summer.

Best wishes,

Gayle and Esther

Unraveling How Children Become Bilingual So Easily
This article, from InteliHealth, reports on a recent study that explains why young children's brains, (ages zero to seven), are able to become bilingual easier than older people's brains.  The hope is that the lessons learned from this study will help educators design programs that will help all people, regardless of their age, to learn a second language more efficiently.  What is clear from the results of this research is that the earlier a child is exposed to a second language - the better!
