Partners with Parents Newsletter - Parent Coaching - January 2008

January 2008                                     èáú  úùñ"ç

Dear Parents,

This newsletter focuses on exploring a service that many parents of children with learning difficulties and AD/HD are not familiar with - Parent Coaching.  When you think of a Parent Coach, you may think of the television figure Super Nanny, who each week assists a different dysfunctional family to organize their life and discipline their children.  While this type of Parent Coaching definitely exists, Parent Coaches actually help all types of families to better organize their lives and help their children succeed.

The challenge of raising a child with a learning disability or AD/HD is a constant struggle. Sometimes even the most organized and efficient parents find that direction from a non-judgemental and objective professional can make a big difference.

Best Regards,

Gayle and Esther

Coaching Tip -
Check for professional standards!

While you need a medical degree to be a doctor and a teaching degree to be an accredited teacher, the term coach can be used by people with no formal professional training.  If you are considering hiring a coach, make sure  that the person you choose has professional training and experience and has completed an accredited coaching course.
